Towns and cities have been planned with aesthetics in mind. Here in Bath, England, 18th-century private sector development was designed to appear attractive.

Urban planning has become an interesting topic especially for developing country these days. It’s not an exception for our country, Indonesia. There were many urban problems start from the badness made by our government in regulation on urban planning.

Look at Jakarta City. I hate this town. Jakarta has become center of Indonesia: center of government, center of many industrial, center of entertainment, center of trade in Indonesia, etc. You know the consequences: Jakarta has become center of jamming, center of polution, center of crime, etc :p

So, I think in past we didn’t have many people that has capability in urban planning (it’s my opinion, correct me if i’m wrong). The greedy people (it’s my opinion again, greedy people arise from smart people) dont’t have to think about the future. They offered bidding for some project, won some, get an order to finish building project and they did what should they do without get consulting about urban planning.

What they do is to destroy a civilitation, instead of construct it.

Civil engineer is main part that destroy the civilitation. I admit that (although in civil engineering, the main problem usually come from project owner) 🙂

But, you know that in Indonesia, urban planning is not viewed as a main project behind the big plan in civilitation. It’s just like an unimportant science, so that’s why we have Indonesia that has many problems.

You want a simple sample? Here it is. I ask my brother that he knows about planologi. You know the aswers? He tells me that planologi learn about botani and plant, hahaha 🙂

Urban planning it’s not so popular in our countrry. We just only know this perception: you have an empty landfill, so build your building there, hehe. I have some solutions about these problems: try to cooperate betwen government, constructor, project owner, and regulations connect them. The beautiful city is not a city with high density on landfill usage. Try to allocate which is landfill free from any buldings and which is can be built.
